Fitchett no-hits W&L

by Larry Chowning

Alex Fitchett pitched a no-hitter to lead the Middlesex High School JV baseball team past Washington & Lee 12-1 on March 28 at Deltaville Ball Park.

An 8th-grader, Fitchett struck out 11 in the win. “Alex pitched a great game and was consistent all night,” said MHS coach Justin Harris.

W&L’s only run in the game was unearned.

Offensively, the Chargers continue to improve and produce at the plate. Fitchett helped out his own cause by going 3 for 3. Freshman Adam White went 2 for 4, and Vance Medina and Greg Pitts each had a hit.

The JV Chargers are on spring break this week and return to action at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9, against Rappahannock at Deltaville Ball Park. “Hopefully the momentum we got from the W&L win can serve us well as we begin our Tidewater District games next week,” said Coach Harris.

The JV Chargers’ first district game is at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 11, against West Point at Deltaville Ball Park.

“The boys have all the tools necessary to be very competitive in the district as long as they stay focused and continue to work hard,” said Harris.
