‘Fight Like A Girl’ set for March 20
The Middlesex Parks & Recreation Department and Master Jerry Lemon, owner of Jerry’s Martial Arts Academy in Gloucester, are on a mission to help women and girls of the community learn to “Fight Like A Girl.”
More than 13 years ago, former Middlesex resident Kym Rock, daughter of John & Janet Blake of Hartfield, started the “Fight Like A Girl” program that teaches women and kids to think smarter and have the skills and awareness to keep themselves out of dangerous situations. Fight Like A Girl also trains women and girls to get away from an attacker, abuser or abductor.
A free seminar will be held on Wednesday, March 20, at the Tom Carter Memorial Gym at 877 General Puller Hwy. behind the Cooks Corner Office Complex. The seminar was originally scheduled for March 6 but was cancelled due to bad weather.
Registration begins at 6 p.m. and the seminar begins at 6:30 p.m. Girls and ladies ages 13 and up are welcome and no experience or fitness level is required. In addition, Middlesex Parks and Recreation also will be launching Fight Like A Girl ongoing karate classes for “Little Dragons” (ages 4-6), family karate for ages 7 to adult, and a senior program for ages 55 and older. Classes begin March 11 or 12.
Register by calling Karen Reed at 758-0057 or Jerry’s Martial Arts Academy at 815-9934 or email . You can see a poster of the event and check out some photos of Fight Like a Girl events at fightlikeagirl.com.
