The Deltaville Deltas won both of their league games last week, defeating the Lancaster Riptides 11-3 on Friday, and coming back from a 4-0 deficit to edge the Richmond Rockies 6-4 on Monday. The Deltas played against the Richmond Braves on Wednesday night, but the results of that game were not available at press time.

The wins improved Deltaville’s overall record to 15-1 on the season, and 12-1 in Richmond NABA league play.

The Deltas only upcoming game is a home matchup this Saturday, July 23, when the Lancaster Riptides will visit for a 7:30 p.m. game at Deltaville Ballpark.

Deltas 11, Riptides 3
Brandon Walker had 3 hits and was responsible for 5 runs, while Kinston Carson struck out 13 batters over 6 innings as the Deltas rolled to an 11-3 victory on Friday night in Lancaster.

The Riptides came out swinging in the 1st inning, taking an early 1-0 lead on an RBI double. The Deltas responded with a series of 4 hits, plating 2 runs in the following frame to take the lead. Deltaville scored again in the 4th, 5th, and 6th innings, opening up an 11-1 lead.

Lancaster rallied for a pair of runs in the bottom of the 7th inning; however, it was too little, too late for the home team.

Carson earned the win on the mound for Deltaville, his league-best 5th win of the season. Josh Moore pitched in relief to preserve the lead.

Walker’s 3 hits led all hitters, and he scored 3 times and drove in 2 runs to lead the offense. Tyler Wood and Moore each contributed 2-hit performances at the plate.

Deltas 6, Rockies 4
Monday night’s game in Richmond started off as a pitching duel, before turning into a 2-inning slugfest, and concluding as another pitching duel yet again.

Deltaville erased a 4-run hole with a 5-run 6th inning and held on to defeat the Rockies 6-4.

Deltas pitcher Paul Jones locked into an early duel with his Rockies counterpart, and the game was scoreless until the 5th inning. In that frame, the Rockies plated their 4 runs to take the lead. Pitcher Will Barrack came on in relief for the Deltas and successfully ended the Rockies’ run.

The following inning, it was the Deltas turn to strike. Cory Peel sparked a 5-run inning with a 1-out single, and Deltaville sent 9 batters to the plate to take back the lead. In the 7th, Peel again singled and scored thanks to Jacob Houston’s second RBI of the game. Meanwhile, Barrack pitched 4 shutout innings to complete the game, not allowing a runner past 1st base. He struck out 3 while earning his 3rd pitching win of the season.

Alexander Crittenden led all hitters with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate, while Peel was joined by Carson in turning in a 2-for-3 day. Houston and Walker each drove in 2 runs.
