Ellis wins Region A 1600 meters

The Middlesex High School girls and boys track teams had 10 athletes qualify for the State Group 1A meet that will be held at Radford University this Friday and Saturday, June 6-7.
Ridge Ellis captured the only first place for the Charger trackmen in the 1600 meters with a personal best time of 4:38.7.
The Chargers 4 x 800 meter relay team finished fourth (9:15.71) and will run in the state meet. That team is comprised of Ellis, Simon Urban, Jacob Self and Audain Tarik.
Senior Kaleb Wake finished fourth in the discus (127’ 6.5”) to qualify for the state meet.
Lady Chargers Zinnie Reed (34’ 5”) and Brittin Payne (32’ 10”) finished second and third, respectively, in the shot put to qualify for the state meet. Reed’s throw was a personal best.
Payne and Jasmine Faucette finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the discus to advance to the state meet. Payne threw a personal best of 88’ 2” and Faucette threw a personal best of 83’ 8”.
Senior Leigh Harrow also advanced to the state meet with a fourth place finish in the 1600 meters (6:01.18).
West Point won the Region A girls team title with 65.75 points. Middlesex finished eighth with 28 points.
Altavista Combined School won the Region A boys team title with 106 points. Middlesex tied for eighth with 18 points.
