The Middlesex High School wrestling team finished third in the Tidewater District Tournament on January 30.

King William won the event with 161 points, Mathews finished second with 142 points, and the Chargers were third with 131 points. MHS had two wrestlers win first place honors—Ridge Ellis in the 132-pound division and Vlad Rowe in the heavyweight class.

Middlesex’s Cody Cannon was second in the 106-pound weight class; Enrique Gonzales, second, 113-pound class; Devante Robertson, second, 138-pound class; Blake Damron, second, 145-pound class; Jack Bayard, second, 152-pound class; Chad Page, second, 160-pound class; and James Williams, second, 170-pound class.

Williams, Damron and Ellis also were named to the Tidewater District All-Academic Team.

“Our wrestlers did a great job and are getting better each week,” said Middlesex coach Joel Anderson. “We are very excited about the future of MHS wrestling.”

The Region A wrestling meet will be held Friday and Saturday, February 8-9, at Northampton High School on Virginia’s Eastern Shore. Matches start at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday.
