WIGO Night set for Friday

For the second weekend in a row, the Deltaville Deltas swept their weekend series, defeating the 3rd-seeded Peninsula Pirates 4-0 and 10-6.
Another busy weekend starts this Friday night at Deltaville Ballpark as the Deltas host the Hampton Braves in a 7:30 p.m. game. WIGO 104.9 is hosting “WIGO Night at the Ballpark,” and one fan will take away a $104.90 cash prize. Also, Rudy’s Pizza of Topping will give away a large one-topping pizzas and a two-liter bottle of Coke to two lucky ticket holders.
On Saturday, the Southern Virginia Baseball League will host its annual All-Star Game and Home Run Derby in Deltaville. The league’s top power hitters will square off starting at 5 p.m., competing to hit the most home runs. At 7:30 p.m., top players from across the league will face each other in the league All-Star Game.
The Deltas will travel to Hampton’s Trimble Field on Sunday for a 4 p.m. away game.
Also, starting next Wednesday, three make-up games—two with the Pirates and one with the Braves—will be played as weeknight games in Deltaville, Hampton, and Williamsburg. Details have not been finalized, and game times will be posted on the Deltas’ facebook page, facebook.com/DeltavilleDeltas.
Deltaville got on the board in the 3rd inning when Brandon Light singled home Alexander Crittenden. The Deltas scored again in the 4th, 6th, and 7th innings to slowly build their lead.
Meanwhile, the Deltas pitchers kept the Pirates from even threatening to score.
The Deltas offense collected 9 hits, led by 2-hit games from Scott Crump, Travis Crump, and Light.
The Pirates took an early 1-0 lead off Johnson in the 1st inning, but Johnson settled down and retired 9 of the next 10 batters. The Deltas fired back in the 2nd inning, stringing together 6 hits to take a 4-1 lead.
The Deltas extended the lead to 6-1 in the 3rd, and after a Pirate run in the 5th, a 2-RBI double from Alexander Crittenden and a Jacob Houston RBI single pushed the Deltas lead to 9-2.
The Pirates staged an 7-hit, 4-run rally in the 8th, but Deltaville tacked on an insurance run in the 9th to seal the victory.
