Despite trailing for most of the game, the Deltaville Deltas knew their bats could come alive at any moment. Tyler Wood and Travis Crump proved the team right in the bottom of the 9th inning.

Wood tied the game with a 9th inning solo home run, and Crump won it with a 2-out walk off RBI single, as the Deltas defeated the Tappahannock Tides 7-6 Friday night in Deltaville.

Tappahannock slugger Bryant Lowery gave Tappahannock a 3-0 lead in the 1st inning with a home run. A solo home run to lead off the 2nd inning by Jordan Wind extended the Tides lead to 4-0. Deltaville battled back to tie the game in the 4th when Crump drove in 2 runs on a base hit, Ryan Wiggins drove in another run on a single, and Alexander Crittenden scored on a wild pitch to even the score at 4-4.

The game remained deadlocked until the bottom of the 6th when Crump scored once again on a Wiggins single to give Deltaville a 5-4 advantage. The lead was brief, however, as Tappahannock plated 2 runs in the top of the 7th to reclaim a 6-5 lead.

Both teams were held scoreless in the 8th, but in the bottom of the 9th, Wood and Crump gave Deltaville the victory, with Brandon Walker scoring on Crump’s 2-out hit to win the game.

Teddy Herbert was credited as the winning pitcher in relief, striking out all 3 batters he faced in the top of the 9th inning. Jason Wood pitched the majority of the game, hurling 7 innings while scattering just 6 hits and allowing 2 runs to keep the Deltas within striking distance. Devin Sisson started on the mound for Deltaville.
