Deltas sweep Cannons

Scott Crump of the Deltas cracked 3 hits on Saturday, and is among league leaders with a .424 batting average on the season.

The Deltaville Deltas completed a season sweep of the York Cannons last weekend, posting an 8-5 victory on Saturday, and a 13-5 win on Sunday. With the wins, the Deltas remained in 2nd place in the Virginia Southern Adult Baseball League standings with a 9-2 record.

At 5 p.m. this Saturday, July 6, the Deltas (9-2) will face league rival the Peninsula Pirates (9-3). On Sunday, July 7, the Deltas will travel to Williamsburg to face the Pirates in a 4 p.m. game at Jamestown High School.

Deltas 8, Cannons 5
Colby Wiggins started a game-winning 8th inning rally with a leadoff triple, and Jay Moore pitched 4 solid innings of relief to lead the Deltas to an 8-5 victory Saturday night in Deltaville.

The Cannons and Deltas traded runs in the early going, playing to a 4-4 tie after the 3rd inning. Deltaville took a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the 6th, but the Cannons tied the game in the top of the 8th.

Deltaville sealed the game in the bottom of the 8th when C. Wiggins tripled to lead off the inning. Ryan Wiggins lifted a sacrifice fly to score C. Wiggins and give the Deltas the lead. Later in the inning, Jacob Houston doubled and scored, and Sam Somers singled and scored to pad the Deltas lead.

Houston was joined by Scott Crump in leading the offensive attack with 3 hits apiece.

Deltas 13, Cannons 5
Deltaville plated 4 runs in the top of the 1st inning, and didn’t look back as they cruised to a 13-5 victory over the Cannons on Sunday.

C. Wiggins had 3 hits to lead the offense, and Travis Crump blasted a 2-run home run in the 6th inning to help pad the Deltas lead. Josh Martin and Houston each had 2-hit games.

Three Deltas pitchers combined for 12 strikeouts in the game. Smiley Smith started and earned the pitching win for Deltaville, pitching into the 7th inning. Ryan Reynolds and Houston pitched in relief to seal the game.
