The Deltaville Deltas offense pounded out 29 runs in 2 games last weekend as they blew past the VBA 61’s, 15-8 and 14-3.

Deltaville (6-1) inched within a half game of top-seeded Newport News Cardinals (7-1).

The final showdown of the regular season between the top teams is this weekend, starting with a Saturday night home game at Deltaville Ballpark. Saturday’s game starts an hour earlier than usual, at 6:30 p.m.

Nutzy (above), the mascot of the Richmond Flying Squirrels, will be in Deltaville on Saturday, June 22. Nutzy will be at Deltaville Market, starting at 5 p.m., and will be at the Deltas game between 6 and 7 p.m. Nutzy will throw out the first pitch of the 6:30 p.m. game against the Newport News Cardinals.

Also on Saturday night, Nutzy, the mascot of the Richmond Flying Squirrels, will throw out the first pitch and be available for pictures between 6-7 p.m.

The Deltas visit Newport News on Sunday, June 23, in a 4 p.m. game at Monfalcone Field in Newport News.

Deltas 15, VBA 61’s 8
Deltaville broke open a 3-2 ballgame with a 6-run 5th inning, and Robert Shermer blasted a 3-run home run in the 6th, as the Deltas beat the 61’s, 15-8, on Saturday night in Deltaville.

The Deltas built an early 3-0 lead, but the 61’s plated a pair of runs on a defensive error in the 5th inning to climb within a run. The unearned runs were the only blemish on starting pitcher Harley Moore’s outing, as he scattered just 3 hits in 5 innings. Moore struck out 8, and earned the pitching victory.

Deltas 14, 61’s 3
The Deltas wasted little time jumping out to an early lead on Sunday in Kiln Creek, plating 8 runs in the 2nd inning, as they routed the 61’s, 14-3.

Deltaville used doubles from Jacob Houston, Brandon Light and Ryan Wiggins to build the early advantage. Two innings later, Houston blasted a bases-loaded grand slam over left field to extend the Deltas lead to 12-1.
