The Deltaville Deltas dug a deep hole Saturday night, and despite a 5-run eighth inning rally, were unable to overcome the deficit and lost to the Peninsula Pirates, 8-5.
In Sunday’s championship game, the Pirates defeated the Hampton Roads Hurricanes in a late inning comeback of their own, 2-1. The championship is the fourth overall Southern Virginia Baseball League tournament championship for the Pirates.
The loss dropped the Deltas to a final record of 13-7, though their league-best 12-6 regular season record marked the third time in four years Deltaville has finished at the top of the regular season standings.
“The Deltas thank all of our fans for great support all summer long,” a team spokesperson said. “We look forward to seeing everyone back next summer.”
