Former Middlesex High standout Travis Crump of Hardyville has been named second team All-USA South Athletic Conference this spring after batting .346 for the Ferrum College Panthers in 2009.
Crump, a sophomore, started every game in the outfield and had 20 RBIs, 30 runs, 9 doubles, 2 home runs and 9 stolen bases for the Panthers.
“Travis is a very dangerous offensive player,” said Ferrum head coach Darren Hodges. “He can beat you a lot of ways. He can bunt for a hit, and hit with occasional power. And once he is on base, he can get himself into scoring position by stealing a bag.
“We converted him to the outfield last year. With some more experience on the defensive side of the ball, there is no reason Travis cannot become one of the premier outfielders in the USA South Athletic Conference. We expect big things from Travis over the next two years,” said Hodges.
As a freshman, Crump batted .341 for Ferrum.
