Colts Mighty Mites lose heartbreaker to Poquoson
|The Middlesex Colts Youth Football League players and cheerleaders are proud to show their support in the fight against breast cancer during October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.|
The last time a Middlesex football team traveled to play the Poquoson Bull Islanders it was in the fall of 1976. Middlesex lost a hard fought contest that evening. Thirty-seven years later the Middlesex Colts Mighty Mites experienced the same fate, losing a tightly-contested game 19-13. Even though the Colts Mighty Mites lost the game, the spirited Colt fans stood and gave the young Colts a standing ovation after the game for their gutty effort.
In the Midgets game, the Colts fought hard but were defeated 25-6. Adam Smith broke loose on a 60-yard scamper to score the lone Colts touchdown.
In the Mites game, the Colts were defeated 18-0, and in the Juniors game, the Colts were defeated 38-0.
This Saturday, October 12, is homecoming for the Colts when they take on Gloucester White at the Middlesex Sports Complex. Game times are Mites, 9:30 a.m.; Mighty Mites, 11 a.m.; Midgets, 12:30 p.m.; and Juniors, 2 p.m.
