Colts Juniors dominate Hornets
The Middlesex Colts Junior team has been described by their fans as exciting, passionate, feisty, and resilient. This past Saturday in Saluda the Junior Colts were all of the above and more. The Colts in their most dominate performance of the season squashed the Williamsburg Hornets 26-7.
In the first half, the running of Jared Lawson and the running and passing of Monte’ Sutton led the Colts to a 13-0 lead. Lawson scored in the 1st quarter on an 11-yard run. The conversion attempt failed.
In the second quarter after Thomas Hamilton recovered a Hornet fumble, Sutton tossed a 16-yard scoring strike to Austin Bullock. Lawson added the conversion.
In the third quarter, the Colts, with their powerful offensive line leading the way, went on one of their patented time-consuming drives to the Hornet 16 yard line where Sutton swept around left end to make the score 19-0.
After the Hornets scored on a long run to make the score 19-7, the Colts scored on a 20-yard gallop by Lawson and a conversion by Jordan Blake. At the end of the game, with the Hornets deep in Colts territory, the Colts White defense rose to the challenge and secured the victory with a Clayton Chandler fumble recovery.
Colts head coach E.J. Blake stated that he was “proud of both the Blue and White defenses that played their most dominant game so far. I am especially proud of Kalob Bristow who made several tackles at the end of the game, and Clayton Chandler who recovered the fumble to end the game."
In the Mites game, the Colts went up against an undefeated Hornet squad. The Colts gave it their best but came up short as the Hornets won 45-27. Kalob Knight led the Colts with three rushing touchdown runs of 23, 35 and 42 yards, also three conversions. Colt Jayden Kidd added another touchdown on a 32-yard scamper.
In the Mighty Mites game, the Colts played the playoff-bound Hornets tough throughout the game but lost 21-7. Daniel Smith scored the lone touchdown for the Colts on a 1-yard run, and Adam Smith followed with the conversion.
In the Midgets game, the Colts played a Hornets team that was runner-up in the PYFCO Super Bowl in 2011. The experienced Hornets showed their mettle and defeated the Colts 38-12. The Colts were led by two scintillating Anthony Pullman touchdown runs of 69 and 81 yards.
