After a weekend of great prep school basketball, it came down to intense court competition between two sister schools for the John Stone Tournament Championship title at Christchurch on Saturday.
Christchurch School and St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes School (SSSAS) are both church schools in the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia. SSSAS in Alexandria is a K-12 school with a total enrollment of 1,144 (456 in the upper school), while Christchurch School is grades 9-12, with 220 students. The Seahorses played big however, beating the Saints, 69-63, for the title.
In the consolation round, Bishop Sullivan Catholic (Virginia Beach) beat Atlantic Shores Christian School (Chesapeake), 70-60.
Players named to the All-Tournament Team are Brehon Britt, Atlantic Shores; DeAndre Barber, Bishop Sullivan; Cameron Gregory, St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes; Daquon Frisby, Christchurch School; and tournament MVP Devin Robinson, Christchurch School.
The John Stone Tournament is played each year in memory of Christchurch School graduate John Stone ’86, of Macon, Georgia.
