Chargers win Lancaster wrestling tourney

The Middlesex High School wrestling team won the Lancaster High School Duals Tournament on December 21. The Chargers defeated Grafton, King and Queen, Franklin, Lancaster and Tabb to win the title.
Middlesex downed Grafton 65-6, King and Queen 63-12, Franklin 54-30, Lancaster 48-27 and Tabb 45-31.
Chargers Enrique Gonzalez, Devonte Robertson, Simon Urban, Ridge Ellis and Stephen Skelton took first place medals by winning five matches in their weight classes.
Gonzalez won in the 113-pound class; Urban won the 132-pound class; Ellis won the 138-pound class; Robertson won the 145-pound class; and Skelton won the 220-pound class.
Elijah Fomin placed second in the 120-pound class with a 4-1 record; Chad Page, second, 4-1, 160-pound class; Luke Robertson, second, 4-1, 170-pound class; Eric Kane, third, 3-1, 126-pound class; and Nelson, third, 3-2, 195-pound class.
“Our MHS grapplers did an outstanding job,” said Charger coach Joel Anderson. “They relied on each other as a team, which made some great things happen.
“There was tremendous community support from our parents and MHS athletic director Matt Stamm going into this meet,” Anderson said. “Our kids have been working very hard and deserved this trophy! Our MHS coaching staff of Will Moore, Wayne Mount, Bob Fleck and I couldn’t be happier.”
