Chargers win district wrestling tournament

Finish 15-2 in regular season

The Middlesex High School Chargers wrestling team won the Tidewater District title for the second year in a row on Wednesday, January 31, with decisive wins over King William, King and Queen and Mathews.

At the tournament at Mathews High School, the Chargers defeated the King William Cavaliers 52-30; King and Queen Royal Tigers 66-6; and Mathews Blue Devils 48-24.

The Chargers were paced by Noah Cannon, Parker Smith, Jack Ruark, Manny Fernandez, Tryston Thomas, Cole Ruark, Jordan Blake and Hunter Carey, who all went undefeated in their weight classes.

Quinton Ritter and Caleb Bagley finished off the meet with 2-1 records and Brayden Deel went 1-2 in the 195-pound weight division.

The Chargers ended their regular season with a 15-2 record. “We did well for the regular season, and winning the district is hopefully good for our team confidence,” said head Middlesex wrestling coach Joel Anderson.
