Chargers visit K&Q on Friday; tourney next week
Tidewater District leader West Point overcame a 7-point first quarter deficit to overwhelm Middlesex 86-52 in a varsity boys basketball game on Friday at MHS in Saluda.
The Chargers led 20-13 at the end of the first quarter but West Point erupted for 29 second quarter points to take a 42-27 lead at halftime. The rest of the game was all West Point, which is undefeated in district play.
Middlesex, 3-4 in district play, will visit winless King and Queen on Friday, February 8, in its final regular season game. The JV game begins at 6 p.m. and is followed by the varsity game at 7:30 p.m.
The Tidewater District Tournament gets under way on Thursday, February 14. It appears Middlesex will be the third seed and will play at second-seeded Mathews in one semifinal.
The championship game is at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, February 16, at King William.
