Chargers sweep K&Q; host Blue Devils Friday

The Middlesex High School varsity baseball team raised its Conference 42 record to 6-1 in recent action with a doubleheader sweep of King and Queen on May 15.
The Chargers also lost 11-3 to King William on Tuesday to lower their overall record to 7-6.
MHS defeated King and Queen 11-3 in the first game and 19-3 in the second game ended by the mercy rule. In the first game, Mason Phillips paced MHS with 3 singles and an RBI. Chris Blake had a double, a single and 2 RBIs.
Also, Austin Copper doubled and knocked in 2 runs for MHS; Adam White singled and knocked in a run; and Kyle Lawson and Trey Blankenship contributed singles.
Copper was the winning pitcher in the first game he has pitched this season.
MHS won the second game 19-3 in 3 innings. Alex Fitchett had 2 triples, 2 singles and 3 RBIs; Kyle Shelton had 3 singles and 3 RBIs; Jacob Kirby, 3 singles and 3 RBIs; Blake, 2 singles, RBI; Lawson, double, RBI; Phillips, RBI; Greg Pitts, single, RBI; Copper and White, a single apiece.
Lawson was the winning pitcher and Phillips came on in relief.
In the 11-1 loss to King William, Middlesex’s only run came when Fitchett walked, Shelton reached on an error, and Copper singled to drive in Fitchett. Phillips got a single for the only other hit for the Chargers.
Shelton was the losing pitcher. He gave up 4 earned runs. In relief, Matt Horne gave up 4 earned runs.
Middlesex’s final regular season game is at 7 p.m. Friday, May 23, against Mathews at Deltaville Ball Park. The Middlesex JVs will play the Mathews JVs at 5 p.m.
