Chargers rout K&Q to up record to 4-4

Jacob Self scored a career-high 17 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and had 5 steals to lead the Middlesex boys varsity basketball team to a 73-40 win over King and Queen Monday night at MHS in Saluda.
The Tidewater Distrcit win gave the Chargers a 2-0 district mark and overall record of 4-4.
Marquez Holmes added 14 points to the MHS attack and Brett Carter had 10. Holmes also had 5 rebounds and 6 steals, and Carter had 2 rebounds and 5 steals.
Also for the Chargers, DeAngelo King had 7 points and 2 rebounds; Kaleb Wake, 5 points and 3 rebounds; Andre Campbell, 4 points and 4 steals; Shakeim Paige, 4 points; Zebulon Burrell and Brandon Sjolie, 3 points each; Dre Key, 2 points and 5 rebounds; Chris Blake, 2 points and 2 rebounds; and Gregory Robinson, 2 points.
The Chargers shot 38% from the field, made 19 of 34 free throws, committed 16 turnovers, and had 23 steals.
Self made 3 of 5 three-point attempts, and Carter hit 2 of 6 three point attempts.
Middlesex will host Charles City in the John Clements Memorial Gymnasium at MHS this Friday, January 10. On Tuesday, January 14, the Chargers will visit West Point, and on Thursday, January 16, they will host Northumberland.
On Saturday, January 18, the Chargers will host Lancaster, and on Tuesday, January 21, they will host King William.
JV games begin at 6 p.m. and are followed by varsity games at 7:30 p.m.
