Chargers rout Blue Devils 45-0; battle Sussex Friday in playoffs

The Middlesex High School varsity football team finished its regular season last Thursday with a 45-0 win over the Mathews Blue Devils. The victory assured the Chargers (6-4) of a winning season and a berth in the Region 1A playoffs. 

The Chargers are seeded 7th in the eight-team regional playoff and will travel to 2nd-seeded Sussex Central (8-2) at 7 p.m. this Friday, November 10. Other regional playoff games are 8th-seeded Northampton (5-5) at top-seeded Essex (9-1); 6th-seeded W&L (7-3) at 3rd-seeded Colonial Beach (7-3); and 5th-seeded Northumberland (5-5) at 4th-seeded West Point (8-2).

At the MHS homecoming game last Thursday, the Chargers dominated the Blue Devils with 21 points in the first quarter and 21 more points in the second quarter. 

In the fourth quarter, the Chargers scored on a 34-yard field goal by Jack Ruark, who has been nailing field goals from as far as 40 yards away. The score ended 45-0.
