Chargers lose in region semifinals

The Middlesex High boys basketball team stunned Colonial Beach 60-54 in the quarterfinals of the Region A Tournament on February 20, but lost 84-47 to a good Surry team in the semifinals on February 22 at Surry.
Colonial Beach was 3rd-seeded in the tournament and the regular season champion of the Northern Neck District, but the Chargers played one of their best games of the season in the road win. “We came out confident,” said MHS coach Chris Walker. “We controlled the tempo of the game and got great looks at the basket.”
The Chargers went cold in their semifinal loss to Surry. “We came with great energy but just couldn’t make our shots,” said Walker. “We got some good looks but they just didn’t fall for us.”
“This was a very enjoyable season,” said Coach Walker. “We had our ups and downs but when it came to the tournament we made a little run. We were the Tidewater District Tournament runner-up and we were a regional semifinalist.
“We are truly going to miss our six seniors who will graduate this year. It was truly an honor to have the opportunity to coach these young men,” continued Walker. “ They have meant a lot to this program.
