Chargers finish 2nd in district tourney

The Middlesex High boys basketball team upset Mathews 52-48 in the semifinals of the Tidewater District tournament, but lost the title game 73-35 to a powerful West Point team.

The Chargers are seeded 8th in the Region A Division I tournament that got under way on Wednesday, February 20. Middlesex visited Colonial Beach in a quarterfinal game.

On February 14 at Mathews, the third-seeded Chargers opened a 12-point lead on the second-seeded Blue Devils early in the fourth quarter and held on for the win with some clutch free throw shooting down the stretch.

West Point 73
Middlesex 35
On Friday at King William, regular season champion West Point jumped to a 19-0 lead and coasted the rest of the way in the district championship game.
