CCS loses in overtime

The Seahorses lost 27-21 in a double overtime loss to Norfolk Christian School on October 25 but showed just how far the team has come since week one. The teams finished the game tied at 14-14.

The Christchurch rebuilding year, following the school’s second state championship, has been marked by consistent improvement. Rebounding from the loss of seven seniors, including five who moved on to play college football, Christchurch looks to once again contend for the VISAA Division 2 Playoff run in 2019.

Senior captain Sebastian McGill led the CCS offense against Norfolk Christian with 100 yards on 20 carries. Junior linebacker Andrew Merrick led the defense once again with 14 tackles.

McGill scored on a blocked field goal attempt when he raced 89 yards for the score. He also scored on a 12-yard rush, after which he successfully converted the two-point conversion. During the overtime session, junior quarterback Jaylen Wood (Richmond) scored on a 7-yard run.

The Seahorses finished their 2018 season on Dischinger Field on November 3 with a loss to Life Christian Academy from Chesterfield.
