King William handed the Middlesex boys their first Tidewater District loss of the year, 40-30, at MHS on Friday.

The district-leading JV Cavaliers upped their record to 4-0 in district play and the JV Chargers (3-1, 6-4) fell to second place.

Stevie Sickal paced King William with 16 points.

Middlesex was led by Juwan Reed and Justin Smith with 6 points each; JD Diggs and LJ King with 5 apiece; and PJ Hart and Shane Bristow with 4 each.

“We didn’t match their intensity tonight and give credit to King William. They played a great game,” said MHS coach Jason Daniel. “We have to find a way to play four quarters and it starts on the defensive end.”

The JV Chargers have four district games remaining. They will host Mathews this Friday, February 5; will host West Point on Monday, February 8; will visit King William on Friday, February 12. The scheduled February 2 game at King and Queen was postponed due to snow and a make-up date has not been set.

JV games begin at 6 p.m. and are followed by varsity games at 7:30 p.m.
