Burnett, M. Reed earn All-Tidewater honors

Middlesex senior forward Ashae Burnett was named first team All-Tidewater District for a third straight year following Friday’s district championship game. 

In the regular season this year, Burnett averaged 18.5 points per game and shot 67 percent from the field. She has scored well over 1,000 points in her high school career.

Burnett also averaged 10.3 rebounds per game and had 37 steals.

Burnett earned second team All-District honors as a freshman in 2006.

Others named to the first team were district MVP Kiera Gaines of West Point and teammate Kristen Medlin, and Briana Mailes and Sharese Jarvis of champion Mathews.

Middlesex junior center Micah Reed was named second team All-District. She averaged 8.2 points and 9.7 rebounds per game. 

Others named to the second team were Paige Rowlett and Courtney Bell of West Point, Jennay Shanklin of Colonial Beach, and Davonna Hill of King William.
Mathews coach Robert Wayne Thomas was named Coach of the Year.

West Point won the sportsmanship trophy.

Middlesex girls making the All-Academic team were Chelsea Lewter, Amanda Brown, Whitney Walton, Micah Reed, Kiersten Baylor, Raquel Pierce, Ashae Burnett and Katrina Reed.
