Chowning scores 30 points; Reed tallies 18 for MHS girls track

Middlesex freshman Michaela Chowning shows the form that won her the Tidewater District high jump competition with a 4’8” leap last Thursday at West Point.

The Middlesex High School girls track team finished fourth as a team with 64 points in the Tidewater District track meet on May 7. King William won the girls title with 154 points; West Point was second with 106; Mathews third, 103; and King and Queen, fifth, 49.

The Chargers were paced by freshman Michaela Chowning and Zinnie Reed. Chowning won the high jump (4’8”) and Reed won the discus (95’2”).

Chowning, who scored 30 of the Lady Chargers 64 points, also finished second in the 400 meters (1:06); fourth, 800 meters (2:50.24); fourth, 1600 meters (6:27.83); and fourth, long jump (13’11”).

Others to score were Reed, second, shot put (31’5”); Ashton Carter, sixth, 300-meter hurdles (59.71); Monica Ward, third, long jump (14’9”); and Jasmine Faucett, fourth, discus (76’), and sixth, shot put (26’11”).

The Lady Chargers ran at the Conference 42 meet on May 20 at Charles City High School.

The Region A track meet is Thursday, May 28, at Sussex.
