Three Deltaville Deltas pitchers combined for a 7-inning no hitter on Wednesday, July 20, against the Richmond Braves, and the Deltas used an 11-run inning to cruise past the Lancaster Riptides on Saturday night in Deltaville.

The wins propelled Deltaville to a record of 17-1 overall, and 14-1 in Richmond National Adult Baseball Association (NABA) league play. The Deltas continue to hold onto a half-game advantage over the second place Richmond Blue Jays. The Blue Jays stand at 13-1-1 on the season.

This weekend the Deltas will play host to one of the top teams in the Hampton Roads NABA, the Virginia Beach Vipers. Coming to Deltaville with a record of 13-7, the high-powered Vipers offense has scored the second most runs in the 12-team Hampton Roads league. The two teams will face off at 7:30 p.m. at Deltaville Ballpark on Saturday, July 30. On Sunday, July 31, the Deltas will resume league play with a trip to Mechanicsville to face the Richmond Rockies (6-7-1) in a 4 p.m. game.

Deltas 10, Braves 0
Pitchers Jay Moore, Jake Jackson, and Craig Johnson combined to hurl a no-hitter on July 20 in Richmond as the Deltas went on to defeat the Richmond Braves 10-0.

The three pitchers combined to strike out 10 batters, while allowing just 1 walk and 1 hit by pitch. Moore started the game and pitched the first 5 innings, earning the win. Jackson and Johnson each struck out 3 batters in relief work.

Offensively, Deltaville pounded out 12 hits, with Travis Crump leading the way with 3 hits, 2 runs and 3 RBIs. Johnson also collected 3 hits, including a 2nd-inning leadoff triple that resulted in the Deltas’ first run of the game. Brandon Walker blasted a 2-run home run in the 6th to cap the Deltas’ offensive action.

Deltas 15, Riptides 2
The Deltaville Deltas sent 15 batters to the plate in the 3rd inning of Saturday night’s game and cruised to a 15-2 victory over the Lancaster Riptides.

Ryan Wiggins sparked the onslaught of runs with a leadoff single—the first of two hits he had in the frame. By the time the inning ended after a Brandon Walker 2-run base hit capped the rally, Deltaville held a 12-0 lead.

The Deltas added 2 more runs in the 4th, and another in the 6th. The Riptides’ offense succeeded in getting on the scoreboard in the 6th inning with a pair of runs.

The pitching staff spread out the workload with Kinston Carson striking out 7 over the course of 3 hitless innings to start the game. Craig Johnson was credited with the win, pitching the 4th and 5th frames, while Josh Moore and Jake Jackson relieved and preserved the win.
