The rockfish season is well under way, and fishing is steadily improving. Last weekend the fishing was “red hot” in the Chesapeake Bay . . . the weather was beautiful, and fish were feeding under birds all over the middle bay.

MHS 9th-grader Michaela Chowning finished 15th out of 97 runners to earn All-State honors. Chowning ran a time of 21:48. “For Michaela to medal as a freshman was a great feat,” said Harrow.

George (Ridge) Ellis IV established himself as the top harrier in Middlesex High School (MHS) history last Friday by posting a time of 16:42 time to place second at the State 1A Championship Meet on a windy, cold day.

In the Rappahannock River, the fish can be found from Buoy #10 all the way to the mouth of the river. Many times they are feeding under birds. Most of the keeper fish are in the 18 to 22 inch range, but over the past week, larger fish have been caught.
