Senior Little Leaguers win three straight; finish 4th
imageMiddlesex lost 2-0 to Grottoes Tuesday evening and was eliminated from the Senior Little League State Tournament (ages 15-16) at Pound in southwestern Virginia. Middlesex, coached by Chuck Walsh and Jerry Crittenden, had a 3-2 record in the double-elimanation tournament and finished a strong fourth among 16 teams. It was one of Middlesex Little League’s best performances ever at a state tournament.

Fifteen districts to battle for State Championship
imageThe Middlesex Little League and District 15 will host the Junior Little League State Tournament Friday through Wednesday, July 24-29, at the Middlesex Sports Complex at Locust Hill. Champions from 15 of the Virginia Little League’s 16 districts will arrive in the county today, July 23. (District 16 does not have Junior Little League and are not represented in the tournament.)


Middlesex umpires to call regional tournaments
imageTwo veteran Middlesex Little League umpires, Don Harris and Stephen Blue, have been selected to umpire in upcoming Southern Regional Little League tournaments. Harris, 52, will umpire in the Senior Little League Softball Southern Regional at Ladysmith, Va., and Blue, 24, will umpire in the Senior Little League Baseball Southern Regional in Viera, Florida.


Deltaville Sharks capture swim championships
imageThe Deltaville Sharks edged the Urbanna Barracudas by 10 points to win the Middle Peninsula Swim League Championship Meet on Monday in Tappahannock. The team scoring was as follows: Deltaville 284, Urbanna 274, Indian Creek 194, Tappahannock 123, and West Point 120.
