Fortunately, Hurricane Earl was a nonevent. The days prior to its passing along the Virginia coastline were spent preparing for the arrival, and there wasn’t a lot of fishing. The weather for the Labor Day weekend was outstanding, and there were lots of boats on the water for the last of the summer holidays.

The Christchurch School 2010 football season opened in Lynchburg on Saturday at Virginia Episcopal School. Christchurch beat the Bishops and began along a path they hope will end in the VISFA title game. For now, a 1-0 start in the conference and the state is good enough. VES scored its only points for a safety.

The Middlesex High School varsity football team will open its regular 2010 season at 7 p.m. Thursday September 2, against longtime rival Mathews in a non-district game at MHS in Saluda.
09.02.2010VA Charter Boat Association: “Hooked on Fishing”
The Virginia Charter Boat Association (VCBA) held its 3rd annual “Hooked on Fishing” youth event on Saturday, August 28, at Norview Marina in Deltaville. VCBA charter boat captains took a total of 110 Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts from the Richmond area to fish in the Rappahannock River and Chesapeake Bay.
