Warwick & Danville battle for state championship
Champions from 15 of the Virginia Little League’s 16 districts arrived in the county on July 23. (District 16 does not have Junior Little League and were not represented in the tournament.) Teams began pool play on Friday, July 24, and continued on Saturday. Rain on Sunday cancelled the two 6 p.m. pool play games, and the games were made up on Monday.
07.30.2009Deltas begin tournament play Friday at Kiln Creek
The hotly-contested Southern Virginia Baseball League (SVABL) begins the 2009 playoffs this Friday night in Newport News. In first round action, the 4th-seeded Deltaville Deltas (12-8, 14-10) will take on the 5th-seeded Peninsula Cardinals (6-14) at 7 p.m. at Kiln Creek Park.
August is one of the slower months for fishing due primarily to the hot days/nights and warmer water temperatures. The fish are sluggish, as are the fishermen. However, August provides us with a large variety of fish to target. In the middle Bay and rivers, we have Spanish mackerel, flounder, bluefish, cobia, puppy drum, speckled trout, gray trout, spot and croaker to name just a few. All of these fish can bring lots of activity, depending upon the tide and time of day.
07.29.2009Senior Little-Leaguers were ‘terrific’
Middlesex made a strong showing at the recent Senior Little League State Tournament (ages 15-16) at Pound in southwestern Virginia. After losing its first game 6-2, the Middlesex squad bounced back to win three straight before being eliminated by Grottoes 2-0. Middlesex finished an impressive fourth among 16 teams in the tournament.
