First place Mariners host Tigers Saturday
imageThe Middle Peninsula Mariners improved their overall record to 8-1 with 6-4 and 5-3 wins over the Richmond Rams on Saturday. Middle Peninsula now holds a two-game lead in the Virginia Baseball League standings with a 7-1 league record. This Saturday, Middle Peninsula will host the Tappahannock Tigers in a 6 p.m. doubleheader. Admission is $7 for adults; kids 12 and under are admitted free.

King’s grand slam sparks Deltas
imageMost would consider a 5-run lead in the last inning a comfortable margin. Sunday afternoon, Chris King wasn’t quite comfortable enough. The Deltaville Deltas left fielder drove a bases-loaded pitch over the left field wall for a grand slam, capping a 5 for 5 day and closing the door on the Peninsula Pirates, 13-4.

Tiller throws perfect game for Mariners
imageMariners’ starting pitcher Matt Tiller (2-0) completed a rare feat in baseball as he threw a perfect game in the 7-0 win. This is the first perfect game thrown in Middle Peninsula Mariners history.

UMVFD awards $1,600 in tournament prizes
imageThe Upper Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department of Water View celebrated the success of its First Annual Croaker Tournament on June 6 on the Rappahannock River and its tributaries. Official fishing time began at 7 a.m. and ended at 4 p.m. “The weather was cooperative and the turnout was satisfactory!” said a tournament spokesperson.
