Fisher pins 2 as Chargers open wrestling season
Middlesex High School wrestlers earned several wins by pins in its first two matches of the season on December 8 at MHS in Saluda. Even though the Chargers lost 42-36 to Washington & Lee and 47-32 to King William, they showed the potential for improvement and a successful season.

Middlesex was plagued by missed baskets and “too many turnovers,” and Lewis said his team will be working on their “mental preparation” for district play after the holidays. “We’ll get there,” he added.

“We seem to be finding our way one step at a time,” said Lady Charger coach Neil Wake. “I was extremely proud of the Lancaster win because when adversity showed up in the form of two of our starters fouling out, the next players in line stepped up and the team continued toward the goal that was before us.”

The Chargers led by coach Patrick Weller opened their season with a 52-50 win last Friday at always-powerful Northumberland, a team MHS had not beaten in several years. It was not a pretty win. Call it a “character” win.
