MHS golf team opens season
With only 3 practices under its belt, the MHS golf team opened its season on Tuesday at PRGC against the Rappahannock Raiders. “The League’s requirement dates for district, regional and state competitions simply don’t allow for much practice time before the regular season starts,” explained MHS coach Greg Harrow.

Hunley wins docking competition
imageJimmy John Hunley earned first place in the Wood Division of the Second Annual Cape Charles Docking Competition with “Jordan Lynn,” a 42-foot wooden deadrise built by Grover Lee Owens. Equipped with a Detroit Diesel 671 Turbo, Hunley completed the turn around and tie-up in one minute, six seconds.


Racing at Virginia Motor Speedway
After four rain-outs in a row, Mother Nature tried to dampen last Saturday night’s activities at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway with a brief shower during qualifying. After a 30-minute delay officials worked the track back into racing condition and continued activities for Chandler Chevrolet Night.


Deltaville advances to championship round
imageThe Deltaville Deltas went 1-1 in the opening weekend of the Southern Virginia Baseball League (SVBL) tournament last weekend, defeating the third-seeded York Cannons 12-1 on Saturday night, and falling to the fourth-seeded Peninsula Cardinals 4-3 in Sunday’s semifinal.
