CCS’s 22nd Annual John Stone Tournament
imageThe John Stone Tournament, held in early December of each year, honors the life of John Stone, a 1986 Christchurch graduate who died in 1988. It was John Stone #33 who stepped forward in the closing seconds of the 85-86 state semifinals to hit a jumper that moved CCS into overtime and ultimately the finals.

Nine seniors to lead Lady Chargers
imageWith nine seniors on the 2011-12 Middlesex High School girls varsity basketball team, “toughness and heart will be our calling card this season,” said head coach Neil Wake. Wake is optimistic the Lady Chargers can improve on last year’s 9-9 record. “I feel very good about this team, and if they continue to work hard, they can accomplish great things,” he said.


Veteran Charger grapplers open at home Dec. 7
imageThe Middlesex High School Charger wrestling team opens its regular season on Wednesday, December 7, at home against Tidewater District rival King William. The Chargers are loaded with experience as three state qualifiers return. Darrien Fisher, John Shaw and Reese Harris all have finished at least fourth or better in Region A to qualify for state competition.


MHS cagers open at home Friday
The Middlesex High boys basketball team will open its season this Friday, December 2, at 7:30 p.m. against Northumberland in the John S. Clements Memorial Gym in Saluda. The Chargers have a new coach in Brody Jackson. Two of the top players returning for MHS, which has advanced to the State Group A Division 2 Tournament the past two years, are guard-forward LJ King and All-State forward Ryheem Lockley.
