MHS cagers open at home Friday
The Middlesex High boys basketball team will open its season this Friday, December 2, at 7:30 p.m. against Northumberland in the John S. Clements Memorial Gym in Saluda. The Chargers have a new coach in Brody Jackson. Two of the top players returning for MHS, which has advanced to the State Group A Division 2 Tournament the past two years, are guard-forward LJ King and All-State forward Ryheem Lockley.

Youth basketball draft is Saturday at MHS
The Middlesex Youth Basketball League (MYBL) will hold its annual player draft for the 2011-12 season this Saturday, December 3. At Middlesex High School, the Girls Division (ages 9-14) draft will be at 9 a.m.; the Senior Boys Division (ages 12-14) draft at 10:15 a.m.; and the Junior Boys (ages 9-11) draft at 11:30 a.m.


Christchurch wins first state football title
imageToo fast. Too strong. Too skilled. That’s what the Christchurch School Fighting Seahorses were last Saturday in their 48-15 win over Potomac School in the State Division II Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association (VISAA) championship football game. Actually, the Seahorses were like that all year as they pummeled every opponent en route to a 10-0 record and first state title in school history.


Taylor, Myers to play baseball at Marshall
imageAt the age of 13, Travis Myers of Urbanna and Michael Taylor of St. Albans, W.Va., began a friendship bonded by baseball. The two Christchurch School seniors began playing “Travel Team” baseball together and five years later both have signed National Letters of Intent to play at Marshall University in Huntington, W.Va.
