MHS wrestlers impressive; forfeits cause 42-30 loss
Not having a wrestler in four weight classes doomed the Middlesex High School varsity wrestling team in a 42-30 loss to King William on December 7 at MHS. The Chargers won six of eight individual matches in the meet, but gave up 24 points on the four individual forfeits.

After a sluggish first quarter, Essex went on a 15-1 run to open the second quarter en route to a 56-34 varsity basketball win over Middlesex Tuesday night at MHS in Saluda.

The undefeated Middlesex JV girls basketball team rallied for a 21-18 win at Essex on Tuesday. Middlesex (3-0) trailed most of the game until late in the fourth quarter. “The girls realized it was time for them to go to work,” said MHS coach Mike Lewis. “We didn’t play well but I was happy to get the win.”

The Middlesex Chargers varsity basketball team opened its season with hard-fought losses to two of the best teams in Region A. The Chargers lost 58-49 to Northumberland last Friday at MHS, and fell 62-50 on Monday at Essex. “I told them championships aren’t won in December, and that those were two really good teams we played,” he said.
