Varsity Chargers fall to Mathews, LHS
A poor shooting night caught up with Middlesex in the second half as the Chargers lost a hard-fought Tidewater District game 59-52 at Mathews Friday night. Middlesex shot 32% from the floor and made only 9 of 21 free throws (43%) in a game it could have won.

With a 45-38 road win over Mathews Friday, the Middlesex High JV boys basketball team is in first place in the Tidewater District. “We had gotten off to slow starts the past three games, but the players did a good job of being focused and ready to play against Mathews,” said MHS coach Jason Daniel.

The Middlesex JV Lady Chargers suffered its first lost of the season 34-11 to Tidewater District foe Mathews on Friday. The Lady Chargers also were only 3 for 20 from the free throw line.

Middlesex led 15-11 at the end of the first quarter. However, Lady Charger standouts Megan Payne and Micah Reed got into foul trouble in the second quarter and they were taken out of the game. Middlesex trailed 29-28 at halftime.
