Middlesex High Basketball loses two tough games
imageThe Middlesex Chargers varsity basketball team opened its season with hard-fought losses to two of the best teams in Region A. The Chargers lost 58-49 to Northumberland last Friday at MHS, and fell 62-50 on Monday at Essex. “I told them championships aren’t won in December, and that those were two really good teams we played,” he said.

Lady Chargers fall twice to Northern Neck foes
imageThe Middlesex High varsity girls basketball team suffered a 65-17 defeat at Northumberland on December 2, but played better in a 34-33 home loss to Essex on Monday. “It was a very humbling experience and hopefully a wake up call for the team,” said head coach Neil Wake.


Rockfish tourney is Saturday
A rockfish tournament sponsored by the Mathews Rotary Club will be held on Saturday, December 10, at Morningstar Marina in Mathews. Registration will be on Friday, December 9, from 4-8 p.m. at the American Legion Hall on Buckley Hall Rd. in Mathews. There will be food, a raffle and live music.


CCS’s 22nd Annual John Stone Tournament
imageThe John Stone Tournament, held in early December of each year, honors the life of John Stone, a 1986 Christchurch graduate who died in 1988. It was John Stone #33 who stepped forward in the closing seconds of the 85-86 state semifinals to hit a jumper that moved CCS into overtime and ultimately the finals.
