Precon Marine, Inc. of Chesapeake is replacing the superstructure of the 2,093-foot-long Twigg Bridge over the Piankatank River. The project started in April 2012 and will be completed in early 2014, said Precon Marine vice president Brian Magee. As of last week new girders at the crest of the northbound lane marked the point to which crews had poured new concrete. Also last week, the last remaining girder from the original 1953 bridge was removed from the northbound lane on the Mathews side. (Photo by Tom Chillemi)
