Last weekend’s 17th annual Turkey Shoot Regatta featured 119 antique sailboats 25 years or older. The regatta was sponsored and held at Yankee Point Marina on Meyers Creek off the Corrotoman River.

The 3-day event has benefited the Northern Neck Hospice for 15 years and raises an annual average of about $50,000. This year the Jamestown goodwill vessel “Godspeed” attended, giving public tours on Friday, October 8.

The boats raced on the Rappahannock River on Saturday and Sunday, October 9-10, with balmy fall weather providing light and variable winds. The race was delayed on Saturday because of a lack of wind, but when the breeze did freshen, racers enjoyed a fast finish. The race on Sunday was called off after the wind died and racers were unable to finish.
