On June 10, Middlesex Elementary School first grade students came to Deltaville Maritime Museum and Holly Point Nature Park for a field trip.

Students visited the museum where they learned about the boatbuilding heritage of the county; the children’s garden and nature trails of the park where they learned about plants and wildlife; and the Pierwalk where they learned about crabs, oysters and the buyboat “F.D. Crockett.”

They also learned about the Powhatan Indians and Capt. John Smith’s visit to Deltaville. Perhaps, best of all, volunteers from the museum boat shop helped the students build their own model boats.
