FD Crockett Restoration at the Maritime Museum
The Deltaville Maritime Museum has taken it upon themselves to preserve an important part of maritime history by restoring the iconic FD Crockett, one of only three large log buyboats still afloat on the Chesapeake Bay. Local author and historian, Larry Chowning, narrates this soundslide, explaining the work that has already been done.

The Middlesex Chapter of the NAACP marked a century of civil rights progress with a celebration. Local African American leaders have proposed that civil rights pioneer Irene Morgan be memorialized with a highway marker in Saluda where she was arrested in 1944 for failing to move to the “colored” section at the back of a bus.

The NWA Fusion professional wrestling event was held at the Middlesex High School gymnasium and benefited the Hartfield Volunteer Fire Department. Large men in colorful costumes (and with even more colorful names) punched, kicked, slammed and hurled each other for a noble cause.

The fifth annual Stingray Point Polar Bear Plunge raised $4,350 for the Lower Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department. Dozens of brave souls plunged into the 36 degree Chesapeake Bay to prove just how big their hearts are. The 2009 Polar Bear of the Year was Tricia Geidraitis.
