Twigg Bridge project progresses
Precon Marine, Inc. of Chesapeake is replacing the superstructure of the 2,093-foot-long Twigg Bridge over the Piankatank River. The project started in April 2012 and will be completed in early 2014, said Precon Marine vice president Brian Magee.

2013 Middlesex Elementary School Art Show
The Middlesex Elementary School cafeteria was filled from floor to ceiling with works of art by all students during the school Fine Arts Festival on April 25. Media included ceramics, water color, chalk pastels, pencil, plaster sculpture and clay.

Zoar Baptist Church’s New Steeple
The new Zoar Baptist Church was crowned with a steeple on Thursday, March 28. A tornado on April 16, 2011, caved in the roof of the sanctuary and the rest of the main church building was razed to make way for the new church, which is on schedule for completion this summer.

Middlesex Youth League Basketball Championship 2013
Regular season champions The Allen Group and Ryman’s Heating and Air Conditioning completed perfect 8-0 seasons last Saturday en route to winning tournament championships in the Middlesex Youth Basketball League.

Black History program Antioch 2013
A Black History Month program, held at Antioch Baptist Church in Saluda on Saturday, featured a skit by Thomasine Acree who traced black history from “the Mother Land” to the White House.
