Education revolution needed
imageFormer Middlesex County resident Howie Soucek has written a new book, “Notes on Education,” that gives reasons behind the decline of the public education system over the past several decades and offers strategies and actions to reverse this trend.

The $553,000 school board challenge
The dismal state of Virginia’s budget situation has Middlesex school officials looking for ways to save money. School superintendent Rusty Fairheart has told the county school board that Middlesex will lose about $553,000 in state school revenues in 2009-10 (FY10).


GED offered in Essex Feb. 7
The Essex GED Center has announced its first 2009 testing session on Saturday, Feb. 7, at the school board office in Tappahannock. Candidates may take either the entire test battery for $43.50, or individual tests of their own choosing for $7 each.


Governor’s School gains distinction
The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries’ Virginia Naturally School Recognition Program has recognized the Chesapeake Bay Governor’s School (CBGS) as a Virginia Naturally School.
