Ware kicks off new school year

The Ware Academy student body, faculty, staff and parents gathered for the September 4 convocation.  Ware alum Raymond Googe was the guest speaker.

Ware Academy kicked off its 2013-14 school year on September 4 with a convocation ceremony featuring Raymond Googe, who taught the student body, parents, faculty and staff about resilience.

Googe, 22, graduated from Ware Academy in 2005, completed high school at Woodberry Forest School, and earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Richmond. Googe attended Ware Academy on a scholarship from Jacob’s Ladder, an enrichment program for gifted, at-risk students.

What is the key to resilience? “Get comfortable with being uncomfortable, grit your teeth and don’t be afraid to ask for help,” said Googe.

Googe will spend the next year working with Church Hill Activities and Tutoring in Richmond to help mentor students.
