VIMS offers ‘Make a Splash with Trash’ one-day camps

During area schools’ spring break, the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) will offer one-day “Make a Splash with Trash” camps on Wednesday, April 3, and Thursday, April 4, from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. each day at Beaverdam Park, 8687 Roaring Springs Rd., Gloucester.

The camps are free and for children in grades 4-6.

Hands-on activities and games will be used to help kids understand the dangers of litter, lost fishing gear, and other trash that ends up in local waterways. Campers also will explore ways they can help.

Recyclable items utilized in demonstrations will be used to create oyster costumes for the Parade of Marine Life at VIMS Marine Science Day in May. Students attending this camp will be registered to participate in the parade.

Camp space is limited. The deadline to register is March 28. Please register online at events.wm.edu/vims for the date of choice, or call 684-7010.
