The Middlesex Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization (MES PTO) has received a donation of $250 from Masonic Lodge No. 83 in Urbanna to use toward the purchase of new folding chairs for the elementary school.

One of the PTO’s goals this year is to raise enough funds to purchase additional folding chairs for the school, which will cost approximately $3,600.  MES uses these chairs during assemblies and events such as the children’s Christmas program, talent show, and 5th-grade graduation. For the past several years, there has not been adequate seating for families at these events.

According to a member of the PTO leadership team, “This very generous donation from the Masonic Lodge has certainly given the PTO’s Folding Chair Fund a jump start, and we thank them on behalf of the parents of MES students.

The PTO also received a kind donation of $50 from a MES parent during the Christmas program and raised an additional $50 at the holiday event.  Anyone wishing to contribute to the fund can do so by contacting the school (758-2496) or PTO treasurer Lorna Lindsey (758-3620).

The next big event for the MES PTO is “Creative Expressions,” a local arts appreciation night for MES children and their families.  Local artists, authors and musicians will be invited to come and share their “Creative Expressions,” demonstrating their artistic style, sharing their written works, and entertaining the MES families with their musical abilities, all in an effort to expose the students and families to the creativity found in our own community.

This creative event will be held on Thursday, February 18, and is open to the community. For additional information on the “Creative Expressions” program, contact Lauren Berry (370-4948) or Lindsey (758-3620).
