Sixth-graders receive life skills training

The Middle Peninsula-Northern Neck Community Services Board Prevention Services Division (MP-NNCSB) is implementing the research-based program “LifeSkills Training” to sixth grade students in the Middle Peninsula-Northern Neck region during the 2009-10 school year.

LifeSkills Training provides students with the knowledge and skills that they need to:

  • Say no to tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs.
  • Develop a positive self-image.
  • Think clearly and make informed decisions.
  • Cope with pressure from the media.
  • Manage anxiety.
  • Communicate effectively.
  • Build healthy relationships.
  • Handle social situations.
  • Resist peer pressures.

The MP-NNCSB staff implemented the LifeSkills Training to the sixth grade students at the following schools in 2009: Essex Intermediate, Page Middle, King and Queen Elementary, Lawson-Marriott Elementary, Lancaster Middle, St. Clare Walker Middle, Northumberland Middle and Montross Middle.
