School snow make-up days are scheduled

The Middlesex County School Board has agreed to make up two snow days by holding school on President’s Day, February 17, and on Monday, April 21, the last day of spring break. School will now be closed April 14-18 for spring break.
County students have missed six days of school due to inclement weather this winter. One missed day has already been made up, and two others were made up because each school day is longer than is required by the state.
Therefore, a total of three days will need to be made up. The third day will be made up by having students go to school full days on June 10-11, rather than half days as originally scheduled.
If more days are missed, the board voted to instruct the school superintendent to add five minutes to each day to make up a possible missed day. For each missed day thereafter, another five minutes will be added to the day.
At Monday’s school board meeting, superintendent Dr. Thomas Taylor said he had received feedback from teachers, parents and administrators on how to make up the snow days. Some wanted to extend the length of school days, while others wanted to use holidays and Saturdays, he said.
