RI Academy scholarships are available
The Rappahannock Industrial Academy Alumni Association is seeking applicants for its annual scholarships. The scholarships are open to African-American students who are graduating seniors in the public high schools of Essex, Middlesex, and King and Queen counties, or who are residents of these counties.
One scholarship in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded to a student from each county. Scholarship winners in 2009 will be eligible to renew the scholarship for their sophomore year. Eligible applicants must plan to enroll in an accredited two or four-year college or university, or technical school, and must demonstrate academic achievement, financial need and a commitment to serving the community. All students who meet the above criteria are encouraged to apply.
Winners of the RI Academy scholarships for 2008 were Shantell Russ of King and Queen, Jasmine Burrell of Essex, and Tekia Peters of Middlesex.
The scholarship application deadline for this year is March 2, 2009. Application forms may be obtained from guidance counselors in the schools or from the website of The Community Foundation of Greater Richmond at http://www.tcfrichmond.org.
